William Hale "Big Bill" Thompson archive spanning his political career from Alderman in 1900 through his unsuccessful campaign for Mayor in 1930. Includes 3 ribbons and 1 ribbon-badge, 2 pinback buttons, a pocket mirror with a 1930 encased penny, a 3/4" brass "MEMBER Big Bill COMMITTEE" pin, a brass 31 mm. token and a 3 1/4 x 5" Pledge Card. All items are in excellent condition except the picture ribbon. A terrific group from America's most notorious Mayor, probably best known for his alliance with Al Capone. Upon his death in 1944, over $1.8 million in cash and bonds was found in Thompson's safe deposit boxes. Some say the cash was from real estates deals, others claim it was payoffs from mobsters. Most historians suspect the latter. $600-700
